Everything you need to know about volleyball betting

Volleyball is a racket game in which two teams face each other on one half of the court.

The playing field is separated by a net over which the ball is thrown. The game aims to bring the ball to the ground of the opposing team. Volleyball is played indoors. Same as the Dragon Slots. There is also beach volleyball, which is played on outdoor sand.

Officially, they are two different sports, but the ways of playing are identical except for small differences.

Beach volleyball has become increasingly popular in recent years and enjoys greater media attention than traditional volleyball tournaments.

Beach Volleyball

History

The sport originated in the United States and was invented in February 1895 by William G. Morgan, the athletic director of the Young People's Christian Association in Holyoke (USA).

He wanted to offer an alternative sport to basketball, which was played a little „harder“ in the early days than it is today. In the early days of volleyball, the number of players was still unlimited and the number of ball touches was not subject to any restrictions.

The name comes from the fact that the ball is hit directly „volley“ in the game. This property was taken as the name for the new game and transferred accordingly.

It then spread to Asia and Europe relatively shortly thereafter. The newly developed sport gained more and more fans over time. In 1910, regulations were introduced that are still in effect today: six players per team and a maximum of three touches of the ball to the opponent's half before play.

The techniques that characterize volleyball, such as excavating, blocking, etc., were developed in Europe and incorporated into the game. These techniques conquered and shaped this sport so much that they are now the characteristic features of volleyball.

Volleyball is organized and represented by the FIVB, the International Volleyball Federation, founded in Paris in 1947. Soon after its founding, the first Volleyball World Championship was held.

In addition to the FIVB, there are also independent and subordinate continental associations. The organization is quite similar to that in football.

Explanation of the rules for volleyball

The playing field measures 18 x 9m and is surrounded by an open space. In the middle, it is separated by a net that is stretched at a height of 2.43 m for men and 2.24 m (top edge) for women.

The net height is set at one meter. The net posts are anchored outside the playing field in the free zone. In addition to the side and end lines, there is a line three meters from the center line above the net, which marks the front field.

The lines are fully part of the playing surface.

To win a match, a team must win at least three out of five sets. The sets are played in rally counting up to 25, with a lead of at least two points to win.

This applies to the first four sentences. If the score is tied at this point, only 15 points will be played in the fifth set, but here too there must be at least a two-point lead.

In beach volleyball, sets are only played up to 21 points and only a maximum of three sets are played. Furthermore, only two players play on a team. The field is slightly smaller at 16 x 8 meters.

If the leading team reaches the eighth or sixteenth point, a technical timeout of one minute will be given in the first four sets. In addition, each team has two timeouts of 30 seconds each per set.

Other basic rules of the game are:

  • The ball may only be touched once in a row by each player, unless the second touch occurs after a block
  • The ball must be hit and must not be guided
  • It must not be intentionally reached over or touched by the net
  • After one point, players must change their lineup to rotation
  • A point is scored when the ball touches the ground on the opponent's half or is played out by the opponent.

The game is officiated by a first referee in an elevated position. A second referee stands on the sidelines. To document the progress of the game, there is also a clerk. Linesmen indicate whether a ball was still within the playing field or not.

Referees may issue warnings for violations of the rules and, if a player commits multiple or one serious offense, may be sanctioned with a yellow or red card. The punishment can be a suspension for a running set or a disqualification for the entire game.

Types of betting for volleyball

The betting options for volleyball are very extensive. Not least because around one-sixth of the world's population is connected to this sport in some way and therefore the interest of providers is correspondingly high.

That's why we also briefly introduce the most popular volleyball bets.

The most popular volleyball bets:

  • Winner There is no draw in volleyball. For this reason, only bets in the 2-way are offered for winning bets, which theoretically amounts to a 50% chance. However, if the actual strengths of the teams are taken into account, this ratio changes dramatically.
  • Overall winner In the case of the overall winner, you can bet either on the champion of a league or, in tournament competitions, on its winner.
  • Over Under Betting Since many points are dropped during a volleyball game, this sport is very suitable for Over Under Betting. This is also an optimal betting option if you are not sure which team would win, but supposedly few or many points are scored.
  • Set bets Set bets come in a variety of forms. For one thing, you can bet on the exact final result based on sets. In addition, this can be combined with super-sub-like forms, such as the number of sets in the entire game.
  • Who scores X points first?Bets on „race“, i.e. on a specific score in a set, are also always on offer. It depends on who achieves a certain score first. These are extremely dangerous bets, as even the clear underdog can achieve this score first.
