Museum
The
old
Yass
Railway
Station
has
been
meticulously
restored
by
a
group
of
enthusiastic
local
people.
The
Station
has
been
transformed
into
a
Railway
Museum
exhibiting
the
fascinating
history
of
the
Yass
Tramway,
one
of
New
South
Wales'
most
unusual
railway
lines.
The
Yass
Railway
Museum
is
open
Thursday
to
Monday
10am
to
4pm,
except
Christmas
and
Boxing
Days.

Michelago
Tourist
Railway
The
Michelago
Tourist
Railway
(MTR)
opened
on
April
26th,
1993,
and
operates
on
part
of
the
former
State
Rail
Authority
line
to
Bombala
in
southern
New
South
Wales.
Most
of
the
MTR
lies
within
New
South
Wales
(in
fact
the
line
is
the
border
between
the
ACT
and
NSW for
much
of
its
length).
The
Australian
Railway
Historical
Society
holds
a
lease
on
this
line
as
far
as
Michelago,
about
48
kilometres
(30
miles)
south
of
Canberra.
Since
October
1996,
the
Society
has
had
running
rights
between
Canberra
and
Queanbeyan,
which
has
meant
that
we
no
longer
require
the
services
of
State
Rail Authority
drivers,
guards
or
signalmen
to
operate
our
trains.
Our
qualified
members
can
now
crew
our
trains
in
and
out
of
Canberra
and
Queanbeyan
stations,
as
well
as
on
our
line
to
Michelago.
Hamilton
Hume
Historical
Museum
As
with
many
museums
in
country
towns,
the
Hamilton
Hume
Historical
Museum
has
some
fascinating
memorabilia
from
a
bygone
era.
The
museum
is
set
out
in
a
very
interesting
and
professional
manner.
An
enormous
array
of
restored
and
original
historic
photos
of
Yass
and
its
people
are
displayed
according to
each
era.
A
simulation
shearing
stand
occupies
the
rear
of
the
museum
along
with
details
of
Sir
Waiter
Merriman,
the
founder
of
Fine
Wool
in
the
Yass
district.
The
museum
is
run
voluntarily
and
inspection
is
by
appointment.

Binaloug
Motor
Museum
An
additional
attraction
for
the
visitor
is
the
Binalong
Motor
Museum.
It
follows
a
policy
to
make
all
the
exhibits
work
and
to
make
use
of
them.
Some
of
the
cars
on
display

Racing
Lotus
Elite,
Ducati and
Norton
Motor
Cycles
and
many
other
special
vintage
and
veteran

The
display
is
supported

a
large
landscaped,
shady
parking
and
picnic
area
and
a
museum
shop
and
kitchen.
Visitors
are
invited
to
take
advantage
of
these
facilities
while
viewing
the
exhibits.
The
Binalong
Motor
Museum
is
located
in
the
township
of
Binalong,
which
is
approximately
37
kilometres
from
Yass.

Cooma
Cottage
Cooma
Cottage
is
a
single-storey
colonial
house
located
on
about
100
acres
beside
the
Yass
River,
near
the
town
of
Yass.
The
National
Trust
of
Australia
(NSW)
acquired
this
property
in
a
derelict
condition
in
1970
and
over
the
past
18
years
has
carried
out
an
extensive
conservation
programme
of
restoration.
repair
and
interpretation.
Today
it
functions
as
a
house
museum
and
features
an
exhibition
which
presents
the
life
and achievements
of
the
famous
Australian
explorer.

Hume,
who
lived
there
from
1839-73.
Goulburn
Regional
Art
Gallery
Designed
by
Philip
Cox
Architects,
the
Goulburn
Regional
Art
Gallery
is
one
of
the
most
impressive
regional
galleries
in
the
state.
The
Gallery
is
located
in
the
Goulburn
Civic
Centre
and
has
its
main
entrance
off
Church
Street.
It
presents
a
diverse
programme
of
exhibitions
covering
a
wide
range
of
art
and
craft
forms.
It
develops
many
of
its
own
exhibitions,
frequently
incorporating
into
them
the
work
of
local
artists
and
craftspeople.

addition,
the
gallery
tours
a
number
of
its
exhibitions
throughout
Eastern
Australia.

The
Big
Merino
The
Big
Merino,
or
the
"World's
Biggest
Marino"
is
situated
just
west
of
Goulburn
on
the
Old
Hume
Highway.
It
stands
as
a
proud
symbol
of
Goulburn
as
the
Fine
Wool
Capital
of
the
World.
Comprising
of
three
floors,
the
ground
floor
houses
a
gift
and
souvenir
shop.
The
first
floor
contains
a
"History
of
Wool"
static
display
where
visitors
can
view
the
step-by-step
processes
of
wool
from
shearing
to
the
final
product.
The
top
floor
is
a
lookout,
through
sheep's
eyes,
