OVERSEAS TELECOMMUNICATIONS EARTH STATION, CEDUNA

THE OYSTER FARM
Oysters cultivated in Coffin Bay are sought by gourmet chefs. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of seafood, fresh oysters and the famed Southern Rock Lobster.

OYSTER WALK
This trail guides visitors along a two and-a-half kilometre Picturesque foreshore through native bushland. Several bridges enable this walk to be enjoyed by people with disabilities.

THE FRANKLIN HARBOR HISTORICAL MUSEUM

Housed in the old post office and attached 1888 residence, the museum contains comprehensive displays of early artefacts, memorabilia and geological specimens.

COWELL JADE AND GEMSTONES

A magnificent array of black and green jade together with some of the world's most colorful marble is on display for both viewing and purchasing. There is a jade processing plant opposite where the cutting of the giant jade boulders can often be seen. Tours into the jade mining areas in the nearby Minbrie Ranges are also available on request.

TALIA CAVES AND BEACH
This captivating area just forty kilometres north of Elliston comprises limestone caves with a granite rock face and formations, plus magnificent white sand dunes and a beautiful beach.

BHP MINING MUSEUM

This is an interesting museum where several displays, and an informative video, describe the mining and steelmaking processes. Visitors can tour the quarries in their own vehicles by following a guide.

MINERAL AND SHELL DISPLAY

An extensive and outstanding collection of more than 1900 crystals from around the world are displayed, along with superb specimens from the local Iron Monarch mine.

KIMBA HISTORICAL MUSEUM
The main feature here is the Pioneer House, reconstructed from the original 1908 home, plus a school, blacksmith shop, government shed and stationary store.

This original wheelhouse from a Boston Bay tuna boat has a restored and fully-equipped cabin which serves as an interpretive centre for the commercial fishing industry.

AXEL STENROSS MARITIME MUSEUM

This unique venue is centred around the boat building workshop of the late and legendary Axel Stenross. This Finnish craftsman set up his trade here in the 1920s and the many relics, artefacts and photos of early sailing ships recall his working life and times.

BARBED WIRE AND FENCING EQUIPMENT MUSEUM

There's more to wire and fencing than meets the eye. This quirky yet fascinating collection features more than three hundred varieties of barbed wire from Australia, Germany, Belgium, Japan and the United States.

The island is a fully-operational sheep station reached via passenger launch. An island tour comprises a tractor and trailer journey across the island to see the historic old slab cottage built in 1840, the shearing sheds and Squeaky Beach - which lives up to its name!

Constantia's Designer Craftsmen are among that rare breed of artisans accredited to the Guild of Master Craftsmen. A guided tour takes visitors from the raw timber, through the design and construction stages, to the finished piece.

TUNA FARMS AND DANGEROUS REEF CRUISES

A delightful 2 hour cruise to a commercial tuna farm located in a sheltered cove off Boston Island. See the fish being fed and view these magnificent creatures close up from the Underwater Marine Viewing Platform. Cruises operate from September through to June. The extended cruise to Dangerous Reef, home to Australia's largest sealion colony and haunt of the Great White Shark, includes a visit to the Tuna Farm en route.

Nestled in the Koppio Hills only fifteen minutes' drive from Port Lincoln, Greenpatch Farm offers visitors a genuine farm experience. Sheep shearing, milking cows, sheepdog trials, horse and pony rides are all part of the working day. Australia's native animals can also be seen in the adjacent reserve.

This collection, at North Shields, contains more than 10,000 sea shells and marine life from around the world. Also included are rocks, minerals, fossils, butterflies and a special Deepwater Trawl Fish Exhibit.

KOPPIO SMITHY MUSEUM

This is an authentic open-air experience of early pioneer life. While only forty minutes' drive north from Port Lincoln, the elaborate complex could be a world away in time. Inspect a 1903 blacksmith's shop, school, historic cottage housing antiques and artefacts of the period and 'Glenleigh' - a fully- restored 1890s pine log cottage with Pioneer furniture.

MILL COTTAGE MUSEUM

This National Trust Folk Museum preserves the pioneer life and times of the Bishop family in their original 1866 home. Nearby, the Settlers Cottage Museum houses a collection of local memorabilia.

THE OLD MILL
The Old Mill was built as a flour mill in 1846 but never commenced operation. Now an historic lookout, it offers excellent views of Port Lincoln and Boston Bay.

TOD RESERVOIR MUSEUM

This is history on tap! It tells the story of Eyre Peninsula's water supply from the start of the reservoir project in 1918 to the present day. Housed in one of the original homes built at the reservoir in 1922, the history of water is given a running commentary by audio and visual displays and other assorted memorabilia.

This incredible area is on the southern-most tip of Eyre Peninsula and contains some of the most accessible, dramatic and beautiful coastal scenery in South Australia. Cliffs, caves, crevasses, blowholes and beaches abound. So do wildflowers, from May until November, with kangaroos and emus being the permanent residents. Be sure to take your camera and binoculars. Cape Carnot is believed to be the oldest rock in South Australia - at more than 2000 million years old. Entry permits are available from Eyre Travel and numerous outlets around Port Lincoln.

Here is portrayed a century of local history in period costume and some superbly-restored vintage cars and farming machinery.

MURPHY'S HAYSTACKS

This is a collection of huge wind- worn pink granite boulders - estimated to be more than 1500 million years old. The phenomena occurs forty kilometres southeast of Streaky Bay and is explained by interpretive signs near the car park and walkways. A key can be obtained from Streaky Bay Council Office to enable closer driving access to these bizarre outcrops.

POINT LABATT
Situated around fifty-five kilometres south of Streaky Bay, Point Labatt has the only permanent colony of sea lions on the Australian mainland.

SIR JOSEPH BANKS GROUP OF ISLANDS
This is a marine wonderland named after that famous British botanist who sailed with Captain Cook. Farms were set up on some islands. Others remain important breeding grounds for Cape Barren Geese and the nature lover can spot sea lions, cormorants and terns darting after the fish which fill the waters.

TUMBY BAY NATIONAL TRUST MUSEUM

BHP STEELWORKS

The process of steelmaking - from coke ovens to rolling mill - is demonstrated on a bus tour of the plant. Visitors see the pouring of molten steel, the shaping of various products and all components in between. Book through the Whyalla Tourist Centre.

FLINDERS LOOKOUT
Renamed after the pioneering navigator, this spot offers views across the eastern part of the city and on clear days Port Pirie - some thirty kilometres away - can be glimpsed across the Gulf.

HUMMOCK HILL LOOKOUT
This hill, developed by BHP was the site of the first settlement at the turn of last century. It saw service as a gun battery and observation post during World War II and today provides outstanding views of the city, its foreshore and the distant southern finders Ranges.

MOUNT LAURA HOMESTEAD MUSEUM

This National Trust museum housed in a former sheep station homestead displays much local history. A 1920s BHP worker's cottage, Blacksmiths workshop and engine shed containing more than 50 stationary engines are all open for inspection - along with the original police lockup!

POINT LOWLY
Just twenty minutes from Whyalla, Point Lowly gives beautiful views of the Gulf and southern Flinders Ranges. Two kilometres past the Santos works at Port Bonyithon is the Point Lowly Lighthouse, built in 1883. The coast is frequented by dolphin and birdlife and the shoreline is popular for fishing.

WHYALLA MARITIME MUSEUM

The HMAS VCWhyalla is a prize exhibit. It was the first ship built at the Whyalla Ship yard in 1941. The city's important shipping past is captured in photos and memorabilia inside the Tanderra Building. One of the largest 00 gauge model railways in Australia is also housed here.

WHYALLA FAUNA AND REPTILE PARK

One of the largest of its type located in an arid climate. Within the bushland setting, visitors can see hundreds of birds. including eagles. reptiles, free-ranging kangaroos and emus, Australia's deadliest snakes, wornbats, dingoes, sugar gliders and bandicoots - plus imported deer, iguana and capuchino monkeys. Excellent picnic and barbecue facilities are provided.

MOUNT WUDINNA ROCK
This is the largest granite monolith in the region, standing 261 metres high, and offering panoramic views and wildflowers in spring. The clumps of weathered granite have formed intriguing shapes. such as nearby Turtle Rock.
