Whale Watching
Hervey bay is known as the whale watch capital of the world!
Each year humpback whales leave their feeding grounds in the Antarctic to bread in warmer waters. The whales stop to rest and play in the calm waters of Hervey bay at the end of the breading season, remaining until the mother feels the calf is strong enough to swim th Antarctica.
Whale watching tours offer visitors the unique opportunity to view these magnificent creatures up close in a natural environment. A real treat for whale watchers are the whale's spectacular breaches as they launch themselves from the water, fly through the air then come crashing down in an explosion of sea spray.
Whale watching season runs from July to October
