Glass House Mountains National Park

The Glass House Mountains are a group of 13 volcanic peaks that dominate the landscape of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Four distinctively shaped mountains - Beerwah, Tibrogargan, Ngungun and Coonowrin are protected by separate National Parks all offering bushwalking, rock climbing and pickncking. This area may be accessed through the township of Glass House Mountains on the Glass House Mountains Tourist Drive. From town, travel along the Glass House Mountains - Coonowrin Road.

Mapleton Falls National Park

This park protects remnants of rainforest and wet eucalypt forest that once occurred throughout the Blackhall. Range in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Pencil Creek cascades 120m over the escarpment to the valley below to form the Mapleton Falls. Popular for picnicking, bird watching and bushwalking. To reach this area, travel 13km west of Nambour to Mapleton. Turn north off the Mapleton-Kenilworth Road.

The highlight of the National Park is the gushing waters of Kondalilla Falls, which cascade down 80m and form a series of crystal dear pools of water. The Pools are popular spots for swimming in the summer months.

Occupying the headland at Noosa, the National Park encompasses a dramatic rocky coastline dotted with sheltered beaches and coves. A series of tracks through the National Park offer visitors a chance to explore tranquil rainforest, open forest, wallum headlands, scrubland and grass lands. The park entrance is located a short distance from Noosa town centre.

The park protects the largest intact sand dune system in the world, and also includes rainforest, open forest and heathlands. Significant features of the park are the coloured sandcliffs, extensive beaches, forests and peaceful lakes. Visitors can enjoy bushwalking, scenic drives, beach fishing, lake and surf swimming. Many tracks within the park are 4WD only - day tours and safaris are available.
